As summer comes to a close, so do our Creative Acts Academy Summer Camp classes. This summer, students participated in a variety of classes, including playwriting, improvisation, acting, and musical performance. Classes were offered for students from preschool all the way to high school, allowing kids of all ages to embrace their creative side this summer!
I was lucky enough to sit in on one of the high school playwriting classes for both its first and last sessions. On the first day, the students learned the fundamentals of playwriting and had just begun to think about their plays. It was very cool to see their creativity hard at work as they brainstormed ideas about scenes and characters for their plays. When I returned to the class on the last day, the students had transformed their ideas into incredible full-length plays that were complex, witty, and completely original! I was so impressed by what the students had accomplished in just one week!
Arts education is a huge part of what we do here at Writer’s Theatre, and we loved bringing these classes to the Madison community this summer! We hope the students enjoyed taking our classes as much as we enjoyed teaching them. If you enjoyed our summer classes, or were unable to attend, then you’re in luck! We are proud to be bringing back our year-round classes! The class dates and schedules are still being determined but they will be announced on our website (https://www.wtnj.org/madison-classes/) and Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/writerstheatreofnj) shortly, so be sure to check back!
