Title of Play: Hot Dogs and Feminism

Jasmine Sharma is currently a senior at the Bergen County Academies in Hackensack, NJ, where she is in the Academy for the Visual and Performing Arts: Theatre Concentration. There, she has had the honor of performing onstage in numerous productions, most notably as the Stage Manager in Thorton Wilder’s Our Town and as Cymbeline in Shakespeare’s Cymbeline. Jasmine spends her Wednesdays interning at Playwrights Horizons NYC and her Sundays volunteering at Actionplay NYC, an amazing devised theatre program for children on the spectrum of autism.

She is currently the Co-Artistic Director of Studio216, her school’s student-run theatre company, which has produced everything from MAKESHIFT MIDSUMMER IN THE PARK to The Last Five Years.

Jasmine has been lucky enough to be honored in The Scholastic Art and Writing Awards for 1 silver key, 2 gold keys, and 1 national gold medal. Jasmine has been recognized as a New Jersey Young Playwrights Festival Winner twice, earning her two NJ Governor’s awards in writing. She is also a Bergen Community College Young Playwrights Winner and placed first in The Theater Project’s Young Playwrights Competition. Her plays Death Rows, Jay and A, Hot Dogs and Feminism, Tequila and Clive have all received full productions in these competitions as well as in One Act Festivals across the country.

When not acting, directing, writing, singing, dancing, or in rehearsals for all of the above, Jasmine can be found doing homework and/or eating copious amounts of cookie dough. She looks forward to continuing these activities next year at Northwestern University.
