The New Jersey Women Playwrights Project provides writers an opportunity to work on new plays with professional actors and directors in a 12-18 month development process. Now in Round Six, 22 writers are a part of this brilliant community.
Phase 1
In each round, the program will work with three-four New Jersey-based playwrights, in a 12-18 month development process. Writers are provided with four readings, three private and one public, with the three private readings scheduled at the writers convenience. The public reading is a work-in-progress concert reading. All readings take place with professional actors, director, and dramaturg.

Between readings, writers are provided with ongoing dramaturgical work and opportunities to meet with the other writers. Aspects of the program may include additional developmental opportunities with one of WTNJ’s partners.
Phase 2
Phase 2 is a commitment to continued work with writers from previous rounds. WTNJ will provide a reading series, currently based in Jersey City, for previous participants of the NJWPP, during the NJ Theatre Alliance Stages Festival. Writers have a choice to either continue development of the piece from Phase 1 or work on a different play.

WTNJ is especially grateful to the Puffin Foundation for its continued support, and the New Jersey State Council on the Arts for the Special Project grant that gave NJWPP its initial launch.
