We are looking for theatre professionals (actors, directors, designers, teachers) and college theatre majors (graduate and undergraduate) to be Readers and Actors for the 2017 NJ Young Playwrights Contest & Festival.

  • First Round – in January 2017, readers will receive a batch of student-written plays via email that are to be read and critiqued by January 31. The critiques are done online and are sent directly to the playwrights to provide feedback, questions, suggestions, and other encouragements for the writers to continue writing.
  • Second/Final Rounds – adjudication of the scripts continues through mid-March when those deemed as finalists are judged by an invited panel of artists who pick the plays that will be performed at the statwide festival in June.

  • The New Jersey Young Playwrights Festival will take place over a 4-day weekend sometime in June 2017. Actors should be present for the entire schedule and comfortable interacting with the young playwrights who attend rehearsals.
  • Additional opportunities may also exist in our local Madison Young Playwrights Festival, typically in March or April.

If your interested in working on the NJ Young Playwrights Festival, please send us your information and a resume/headshot by completing the form below! Any questions can be directed to Jim DeVivo, Director of Education at jdevivo@wtnj.org. Thanks!
