New Jersey Poetry Out Loud Workshop Assistance Guidelines

Summary Description

A fund to provide educational entities a Poetry Out Workshop with professional poets/performers for students and/or teachers. A limited number of workshops are available.

Who May Apply

Any teacher in an educational entity in New Jersey (public, private, parochial, charter or home school association).

December 31, 2018.   11:59 pm  Applications are online only.

Deadline for Notification of Award

January 11, 2019. Schools will be notified directly by the NJPOL State Coordinator once approved.


For over 13 years, New Jersey Poetry Out Loud as been providing in-school workshops to assist students’ preparations for recitation in POL contests, and Professional Development for teachers interested in implementing the POL curriculum in their schools. While these workshops range from one through eight days, this workshop assistance is limited to one or two-day workshops. The monies can be used for Student Workshops or Professional Development Workshops. All workshops must be completed by June 30, 2019

Qualification Criteria

  • Education entities must contain any combination of grades 9-12 (or the equivalent).
  • Entity must agree to hold a contest and send a student to the appropriate regional contest.
  • Entity must fill out a complete application for the program. Workshops will be disbursed based on application responses.
  • Entity must agree to fill out evaluation forms at the end of the workshop.
  • Note: You may apply for both the Travel and Workshop Funds, but you must submit a separate application for each.

There will be no cash outlay from the school, NJPOL will make direct payments to artists. Entities not fulfilling the requirements of the workshop will not be considered for future workshops.
