Chisa is a woman who “writes stuff, and occasionally butt-models” (www.chisahutchinson.com). She was born in Queens, New York to young parents not really prepared for the responsibility, resulting in her being taken care of by her godfather’s mother whom Chisa called “Ma.” She eventually moved to Newark, New Jersey where she thrived in school which earned her, at 14, a scholarship to what she believed to be a boarding school (however she later learned it was not and had to stay with a unique host family including: a Buddhist psychologist, a nature loving Jewish person who loved to play the piano, their three kids and a dog named Bamboo.) This transition, though tough, helped to mold Chisa’s career for the better. Later she earned a B.A. in Dramatic Arts at Vassar College and an M.F.A. in Playwriting from NYU. She continues to write inspiring plays for several theatre companies which can be seen in Chisa’s Other Works. Currently, Chisa teaches creative writing at the University of Delaware while developing work for TV and is a fourth-year member of New Dramatists.
